Th ough not a member of the Clan she was interested in its activities, and was
a sister of Alice Maud Ewell, and half sister of Dr. Jesse Ewell.
MIS S Lucy ALLEN M CCORMI CK
1869-1954
Miss Lucy AlIen McCormick, who passed away on December 19, 1954, was
the daughter of Alexander McCormick and his wife, Eli zabeth Truman Beall
Young. She was the sister of our beloved deceased members, Mrs. Philip Hi1I
Sheriff and Mr s. Mary Sophr onia McCormick Brooks. Until shortly before her
death she and anoth er sister, Miss Ida McCorm ick, continued to live in their
Colorado Avenue home.
An accident some years ago left her a cripple but she was determin ed she
would walk aga in. She bore this affliction with patience and fortitude and was
always ready and willing to do what she could to help in the home. Miss Lucy
will be missed by her family and many fri ends.
Miss Lucy was the aunt of our Clan members, Mr. Clarence Wi1Iiam Me­
Cormick, present Treasurer; Mr. William McCormick Brooks, Mrs. Charlotte
McCormick Pitts, and great-aunt of Mrs. Esther Pitts Prevish ; and also aunt of
Mr s. Mary Young Brooks Duval, Mr s. Mar y Br ight well Stack, and Miss Emma
Berry H oyle.
Fun eral services were held at the Church of the Transfigur ation with interment
in Rock Creek Cemetery.
MRS. AMELIA A DA11S RHODES
1879-1955
Mrs. Amelia Adam s Rhodes of Baltim ore, Md., died on Jan. 19, 1955, at her
home. The daughter of the lat e Mr. and Mr s. J ohn S. Adams , of Charlotte Hall,
Mr s. Rhodes was born and grew up in St. Mar y's County, Maryland, leaving when
she was married.
She is survived by two brothers and thr ee sisters: Mr. J. Franklin Adam s,
of Mechanicsvi1le; H. R. Adam s, of Baltimore, Mrs. N. P. Barber, of Charlotte
Hall ; Mrs. J . S. Magill and Mr s. Janie Leverty, of Baltim ore.
Mrs. Rhodes was very much interested in the Clan and all that it stands for,
and she came to the Gatherings year after year, with her sisters and nieces from
Baltim ore.
Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church in
Mechanicsville, Md., with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Edwar d Keach Magruder, son of Ed ward Boteler Magruder and Annie May
Keach , was born in Baltimore, Md., Oct . 20, 1881. He died at his home in
