NOTES OF STATE UN ITS<br />
Texas held its organizational meeting May 3D, 1953, in La Villita, San Antonio,<br />
and was the first State to have a unit meeting.<br />
Mississippi was the next Sta te and held a meeting at Port Gibson Ju ne 21,<br />
1953.<br />
Georgia followed Sept. 25, <strong>1954</strong>, when 25 Clan members and th eir guests<br />
accepted invitations to the home of the Chieft ain, Gen. and Mrs. Marshall Mag ruder,<br />
in Atlanta.<br />
The Scottis h Standard was displayed ; pine tree boughs, MacGregor shields,<br />
tar tans, all helped to welcome the guests and make them feel at home. Mr s.<br />
R. S. P ope from Dunwoody, Ga., was the guest of honor. She exhibi ted three<br />
large charts. T he first chart showed the 6 lines of descent of Alexand er Magruder<br />
from 6 "Magna Charta Sureties". T he second chart depicted Alexand er' s various<br />
line of Royal Descent fro m King Alpin and others. A chart 12 feet long por <br />
trayed the descent of Alexa nder Magruder through the Kings of Ireland and<br />
Scotland and Scotti sh Chief s. Guests were registered and data obtained as to their<br />
particular MacGregor blood line, and if possible, the name of their initial ancestor<br />
to enter the State.<br />
Some of the points stressed at the meeting were.: resea rch regarding early<br />
State ancestor s, locat ion of early homes and visits to them, checking directories<br />
to locate possible new members, then follow up by personal visits, telephone calls<br />
or written invitations to become member s. Finally ar range for inf ormal meetings<br />
in the lar ger towns.<br />
I t was hoped to have another meeting in the spring, so that those who were<br />
unable to attend the Washington Gathering might be able to learn of the happenings<br />
there.<br />

Arkansas : Deputy-Mrs. Etta Leone Stephens Stokes. No meetings held<br />
as yet. The Deputy Chief tain sent out 25 personal invitations to eligible descenda nts<br />
to join and secured four members. Perso nal touch proved to be the most success ful<br />
