1882-1953<br />
H enri etta Eli zabeth Bri scoe was born in Baltimore, Md., Mar. 6, 1882, the<br />
daught er o f Alexa nder Magruder Bri scoe and Alviar e T oland, and died in St .<br />
Joseph's H ospital, Baltimore, Aug. 13, 1953. H er sister followed her in death on<br />
Novembe r 8, 1953, and both are buried in the St. Joseph's Monastery Cemetery,<br />
Irvington, Baltim ore, Md.<br />
On her father's side she was descended fro m Alexa nder Magruder of P rince<br />
George's County, Md., who married Susannah Lamar , and whose daughter, E leanor,<br />
married D r. John Briscoe V. of " Piedmont", Ber keley (l ater Jefferson) County,<br />
V irginia, which later became W est Virginia. Also on her father's side, she was<br />
descended from Dr. John Briscoe who came to Mary land in th e Ark and Dove<br />
and settled in St. Mary's County.<br />
H er mind showed a mathematical trend early in life and in 1921 she received<br />
a Degree of Bachelor of Commercial Science. She followed a business career<br />
and in 1937 was an auditor in the Internal Revenue.<br />
Miss Briscoe was a devout Catholic, being a convert to the Fai th. She was a<br />
member of the Quota Club of Baltimore. the Washington Cur tis Chapter, D.A.R.,<br />
the Woman's Club of Balt imore, the Department of Ma ryland W oman' s Relief<br />
Corps, and a life member of the American Clan Gregor Society.<br />
She is survived by a nephew, Mr. W hitridge L. Briscoe of Washington, D. C.<br />
M I S S F LOREK CE ELEANOR SMITH<br />
1874-<strong>1954</strong><br />
Miss F lorence E leanor Smith was the daughter of Samuel Yeager Smith and<br />
F lorence La Gra nge Wynne and great-granddaughter of Ninian O ffutt Magr uder<br />
and Mar y H arris. She was born in Huntsville, T ex., F eb. 25, 1874, and' died in<br />
W ashington, D. c., Feb. 22, <strong>1954</strong>. Burial was in Fa irmount Cemetery, in Denver,<br />
Colo. Miss Smith has been a member of the Clan for many years. She is sur vived<br />
by a sister, Mr s. Eugene Barrett, also a Clan member ; a nephew, Thorn ton Wyn ne<br />
Barrett of Br idgeport, Conn., and a niece and nephew of Los Angeles, Calif. , Mr s.<br />
Gerddine Smith H ealy and Orville L. Smith.<br />
WALTER M U NCASTER H IGGI N S<br />
Walter Muncaster Hi ggins, a member of th e Clan, as is also his son and his<br />
widow, died at DeLand , F la., where he had lived for about a year, on April 19, <strong>1954</strong>.<br />
Mr . Hi ggins, who was associated with General Motor s befor e his retirement,<br />
lived at Perry Point , Md., bef ore moving to F lorida. H e died at the home of his<br />
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Th eo H iggins.<br />
H e was the son of the late John J. H iggins and Laura Muncaster Higgins.<br />
H e attended Rockville Academy and was graduated from Wes tern Mary land<br />
College, Westminster , Md.<br />
During Wo rld War I, he was an ordnance captain. H e served in Worl d W ar II
