Th e Chieftain would like to have such a report from each State. Much of<br />
the above information was obtained from W. C. Barrickman's Twelve Generations<br />
of Magrud ers in America.<br />
The Clan Year Book of 1947 contains the full account of the marking of<br />
the gravestones of Archibald Magruder by the Magruder Family Gathering,<br />
headed by Guy Russell Henderson, who had the "S on of th e American Revolution"<br />
plaque fastened to the stone. H e was assisted by O. K. Magruder, son of James<br />
Ed wart Magruder.<br />

Miss June Lippincott Stockham entered the Salisbury State T eachers' College<br />
on the Eastern Shore of Maryl and, in September <strong>1954</strong>.<br />
John William Freeman, a former junior member now transferred to Adult<br />
Membership, is a Private at the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center at<br />
Jacksonville, Fla.<br />
Daniel Dillon, Ill, one of our Ju nior Members, is a student in the Hi gh<br />
School in Berkeley, Calif.<br />
Abbott Frances Hayden, Ir. , is with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F ra nk<br />
Cecil Magruder, in San Diego, Calif., where he is a student at the Helix Hi gh<br />
School. He was voted the "No. I Speake r" and spoke before the Lions Club<br />
as his school's representative.<br />
Miss Jane Magruder is taking an active par t in H igh School work at Indianola,<br />
Miss. She is editor of the school paper, "Smoke Signals", a member of the H all<br />
of Fame, Student of the Month for December, <strong>1954</strong>, and winner of the E ssay<br />
contest on "I Speak for Democracy." Jane and her sister Alice were both in<br />
the home economics Style Show, and Anna, another siste r, was on the Chris tmas<br />
program.<br />
The Clan has its first Life Member among the junior set. Alexander Leonard<br />
Covington Magruder, 11, age 21, has been presented with a Life Membership by<br />
his cousin, Wm. B. Hamilt on Magruder, of San Antonio, Tex.<br />
Commander Daniel Dillon, Jr., father of our junior member, Daniel Ill,<br />
is serving as Staff Commander of the Service Division with the Fleet near J apan.<br />
Commander Dillon is a nephew of Mrs. O. O. van den Berg, Clan Registr ar.<br />
John E well passed the Virg inia State Bar examination. He is the son of<br />
Nathaniel Ewell, Sr., and a nephew of Mr s. Helen Woods E well Hard.
