possible Babinski sign, nor is a stimulus which causes a Babinski sign<br />

always painful in an average subject.<br />

7. The reason why the effects of conventional stroking of the sole<br />

distinguish much better between patients and normal subjects than the<br />

effects of electrical stimulation is not that stroking is 'natural', but that it<br />

generates spatial and temporal summation of afferent impulses.<br />
