USING THE ACCESS CHECKLISTS -<br />

STEPS<br />

STEP 4:<br />

Identify <strong>Resource</strong>s<br />

Identify any staff and or financial resources required for administering the checklists.<br />

Identify a proposed timeline for the access assessment.<br />

The checklists may be administered by one or more staff. It is important however that all<br />

staff administering the checklists are given copies of the sections People With Disabilities<br />

and Planning for <strong>Access</strong> and Using the <strong>Access</strong> Checklists before commencing<br />

assessment.<br />

STEP 5:<br />

Planning <strong>Access</strong> Assessment<br />

In conducting your assessment of access you may wish to assess services individually,<br />

by groups of services, or by programs.<br />

It is important to identify the components of the service to be assessed to that the relevant<br />

checklists are used.<br />

STEP 6:<br />

Complete Checklists<br />

During this step the person(s) responsible for assessing the accessibility of the nominated<br />

service category will need to complete the relevant checklists. The checklists should<br />

preferably be completed in the following order:<br />

• Buildings and Facilities<br />

• <strong>Access</strong> to Information<br />

• Staff <strong>Access</strong> Awareness<br />

• Public Participation<br />

• Adapting <strong>Services</strong>.<br />
