accessible public telephones are essential for people with disabilities who rely on<br />

others for assistance, particularly for transport;<br />

accessible telephones should be provided both internally and externally to<br />

buildings, should be adjacent to other public telephones and located on main<br />

access ways;<br />

free standing drinking fountains provide better access than recessed ones.<br />

Controls need to be at the front of the unit and be operable with one hand;<br />

vending machines should be placed so that they do not obstruct access routes.<br />

The control buttons need to be in the height range of 500mm-1200mm; and<br />

all utilities should be provided on even ground and in well lit areas.<br />
