60. Genus Plesiastrea.<br />

Corallum globose ; its un<strong>de</strong>r sm-face having <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> a naked costiilated plate.<br />

Gemmation extra-calicular. Calices with a free margin, and a fossula ra<strong>the</strong>r shallow.<br />

Columella spongy. Pali well <strong>de</strong>veloped, and corresponding to all <strong>the</strong> septa except those<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> last cyclum. Septa exsert, formed by a weU-<strong>de</strong>velopcd lamina, and having a <strong>de</strong>licately-serrated<br />

apex. Costce and <strong>the</strong>ir dissepiments in general well <strong>de</strong>veloped.<br />

61. Gemis Leptastrea.<br />

Corallum very <strong>de</strong>nse and incrusting, and increasing by fissiparity, as well as by<br />

extra-calicular gemmation. Costal cceuenchyma quite compact. Calices in general much<br />

crow<strong>de</strong>d toge<strong>the</strong>r, but preserving <strong>the</strong>n- margins distinct. Columella papillose. Sqjta thin,<br />

closely set, exsert, <strong>de</strong>licately granulated, and having <strong>the</strong>ir apical margin almost entire near<br />

<strong>the</strong> walls, but <strong>de</strong>licately <strong>de</strong>nticulated towards <strong>the</strong> columella. Dissepiments not very abundant.<br />

62. Genus Solenastrea.<br />

Corallum forming in general a convex mass, <strong>of</strong> a light and cellular structure. Gemmation<br />

extra-cahcular. Curallites long, slen<strong>de</strong>r, and united by an exo<strong>the</strong>cal structure,<br />

and not by <strong>the</strong> costcR, which do not meet, and are <strong>of</strong>ten rudimentary. Calices circular,<br />

with an exsert margin. Columella spongy, and in general smaU. Se^ita very thin ; <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

margin <strong>de</strong>nticulated. Dissepiments simple, numerous, and closely set.<br />

63. Genus Phymastrea.<br />

Corallum forming a convex or a horizontal mass. Corallites prismatical ; sm-roun<strong>de</strong>d<br />

from top to bottom by a thin epi<strong>the</strong>ca ; very nearly approximated to each o<strong>the</strong>r, but not<br />

united by <strong>the</strong>ir walls, and cemented toge<strong>the</strong>r by means <strong>of</strong> a certain number <strong>of</strong> large<br />

wart-like processes, so as to leave an empty space between <strong>the</strong>m. Gemmation extracalicular.<br />

Calices sub-polygonal, with a free margin. Columella spongy, well <strong>de</strong>veloped.<br />

Septa large, slightly exsert, and strongly <strong>de</strong>ntated. Walls thick ; no trace <strong>of</strong> costse.<br />
