2. Genus Endopachys.<br />

Corallum simple, free, and organized as in <strong>the</strong> preceding genus, but much compressed<br />
towards its basis, which is carinate, and continued laterally into two vertical lobiibrm or<br />
cristate expansions. Calice arched ; fossula long and narrow.<br />

CoraUum simple and adherent, sub-pediculate, or sub-cylindrical, with a very broad<br />
basis. Columella well <strong>de</strong>veloped, but not projecting at <strong>the</strong> bottom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fossula. Septa<br />
thin, and closely set ; those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> last cyclum well <strong>de</strong>veloped, and complete in number.<br />
Costa narrow, crow<strong>de</strong>d, and nearly equal ; no mural expansions.<br />

4. Genus Heteropsammia.<br />

CoraUum simple, adherent, and growing by its basis so as to cover completely <strong>the</strong><br />
shell on which it is fixed, and to assume <strong>the</strong> appearance <strong>of</strong> being free. Calice smaller<br />
than <strong>the</strong> basal part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> corallum. Columella well <strong>de</strong>veloped. Septa thick, sUghtly<br />
exsert, and closely set. Walls not having distinct costse, but presenting small striae or<br />
small papilla?, composed <strong>of</strong> minute granulse, and arranged in an irregular manner.<br />

CoraUum simple, adherent. Calice elliptical. Columella much <strong>de</strong>veloped, and<br />
projecting at <strong>the</strong> bottom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fossula. Sej}ta nei<strong>the</strong>r exsert nor crow<strong>de</strong>d, very thin, and<br />
presenting scarcely any granulations ; those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fifth or<strong>de</strong>r rudimentary. Walls thin and<br />
translucid.<br />
Costce distinct from <strong>the</strong> basis, and formed by series <strong>of</strong> smaU granulse.<br />

CoraUum simple, erect, and adherent. Calice circular. Columella much <strong>de</strong>veloped,<br />
but not projecting. Septa thick, strongly granulated, and slighty exsert, forming four<br />
cycla, <strong>the</strong> last <strong>of</strong> which is almost rudimentary. Walls covered with an indistinct peUicular<br />
cpi<strong>the</strong>ca, and having broad, straight costse.<br />
