its apex ; but having a ten<strong>de</strong>ncy to become compact, and to fill up <strong>the</strong> visceral chamber<br />

towards its basis. Sejjfa very thick, closely set, scarcely granulated, and very feebly<br />

<strong>de</strong>nticulated. Dissepiments little <strong>de</strong>veloped.<br />

Corallum forming a slightly convex mass, with its upper surface strongly echinulate, and<br />

its un<strong>de</strong>r surface constituting a plate, covered with a complete, thin epi<strong>the</strong>ca. Genuuation<br />

sub-marginal or marginal. CoraUifes united by <strong>the</strong>ir walls, which are somewhat cellular.<br />

Calices sub-polygonal, with broad, spiniferous, simple, common margins. Columella rudimentary<br />

or septal. Septa exsert, strong, and armed with projecting spiniform teeth, <strong>the</strong><br />

largest <strong>of</strong> which are situated near <strong>the</strong> walls, instead <strong>of</strong> being <strong>the</strong> central ones, as in <strong>the</strong><br />

preceding genera. Dissepiments very numerous.<br />

Corallum pediculate, and increasing in breadth more than in height. Gemmation<br />

sub-mai'ginal. Corallites intimately united by <strong>the</strong>ir walls. Calices superficial, distinct at<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir centre, but not so towards <strong>the</strong>ir cu'cumference. Columella very small. Septa confluent,<br />

progressing from one calicular centre to ano<strong>the</strong>r without interruption, exsert, and<br />

hiding <strong>the</strong> walls, over which <strong>the</strong>y extend ; <strong>the</strong>ir calicular margin almost horizontal, and<br />

armed with nearly equal teeth.<br />
