7. Genus Stephanophyllia.<br />

Corallum simple, free, and presenting no trace <strong>of</strong> adherence. IFall discoidal,<br />

horizontal. Calice circular and open. Septa tall, thin, crow<strong>de</strong>d, not projecting laterally<br />

beyond <strong>the</strong> edge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mural disc, covered with conical granulations on each si<strong>de</strong>, and<br />

all, excepting those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first cyclum, united by <strong>the</strong> inner edge. Costce <strong>de</strong>licate, straight,<br />

composed <strong>of</strong> simple series <strong>of</strong> obscm-e granulations, and radiating regularly from <strong>the</strong><br />

centre <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mural disc to its circumference. No epi<strong>the</strong>ca.<br />

8. Genus Dendrophtllia.<br />

Corallum composite, and in general arborescent. Corallites cylindrical, or cylincbicoturbinate,<br />

and formed by lateral gemmation. Calices circular, or nearly so ;<br />

fossula <strong>de</strong>ep.<br />

Columella well <strong>de</strong>veloped, and in general projecting much at <strong>the</strong> bottom <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fossula.<br />

Septa not exsert, thin, and closely set ; those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fourth cyclum well <strong>de</strong>veloped. Wulh<br />

becoming very thick, and presenting narrow vermiculate costm, formed by series <strong>of</strong> granula'.<br />

Corallum composite, arborescent, increasing by successive fissiparity. Calices irregular<br />

<strong>de</strong>veloped. Septa not exsert, distant, and forming tlu'ee cycla ; those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fifth or<strong>de</strong>r<br />

rudimentary. Costa narrow, sub-vermiculate towards <strong>the</strong> bases, simple, and formed <strong>of</strong> a<br />

series <strong>of</strong> granulse near <strong>the</strong> calice.<br />
