6.4 Empirical Findings from Other Studies:
In this section a brief review of the available
studies on the relationship between agricultural
development and population growth is presented. Few
related studies carried out in other countries are
only reviewed here as there appears to be no
studies on Nepal on this specific issue. The review
focusses on the findings of these studies with
regard to population growth and its components as
related with agricultural development.
(1) Agricul tural Development and Fertility'
In his study of Ta1wan,Japan and South Korea,
Kocher (1973) observed the simultaneous trends of
declining fertility, enhanced agricultural productivity
and increasing egalitarian rural income distribution.
Mueller (1974) looked at the historical
record of the change in demographic and agricultural
development in Taiwan, Japan and Punjab (Indian State)
