All the three sub-regions in Tera! are
experiencing rapid growth in population during the
period 1952/54-81, the Western Tera! being the
fastest one among them and also among all other subregions
within the country.
It is only t.1Us region
and its sub-regions which have also got the
distinction of a continuous rise in annual growth
rate of population in all the decades.
Growth rate
bas also increased from Eastern to Western Tera!
except dUring 1952/54-61. Like the Inner Tera!,
significant variations can also be observed in the
growth rates of population within the sub-regions
of Terai and these variations are becoming 1arger over
time. On the whole, the rate of growth of population
of Eastern and Central Tera! bas been hi9h to very
bigh as compared to very high of Western Terai.

1971-81:
Here an attempt has been made to explain the
variations in population growth across districts in
terms of its c~nents and discern the patterns. To
