reason for higher sex ratio in service and manufacturing
towns could be due to the sex selective
male migration for seeking jobs, and higher education.
However, the extent of variation among
categories is not so significant. The above findings
should be interpreted with caution because of
the lesser number of towns falling in some of the
functional gra.ps.
In the above discussion we attempted to
classify the towns into specific categories and then
relate them with urban population growth.
But what
is generally observed is that towns are basically
diversified in nature 80 far as their functions are
concerned. Taking into account the diversified
nature of their functions here an attempt has been
made to classify the towns based on their functions
into three major categories viz., monofunctional,
bifunctional and multifunctional. To achieve this
objective unlike four categorization of towns which
was done earlier we have made it into five categories
