growth have been highlighted. In the specific setting
of Nepal, however, previous studies have not tried to
understand the patterns of population growth either
by levels of agricultural development or by socioeconomic
development. Furtherrrore, no attempt has
been made to explain the variations in population
growth at the disaggregated level (districts) in terms
of its components.
This could perhaps be due to the
non-availability of data on the components of population
growth at the district level. Hence, the present
study has been designed to explain the vaxiations in
population growth in terms of its components
at the
disaggregated level by estimating them and also to
understand the patterns of population growth by levels
of agricultural development and levels of socioeconomic
development in Nepal.
1.3 Ob1ectives of the Study:
The specific objectives of the study are:
(i)
to examine the patterns of population
growth in Nepal by regions and districts,
(ii)
to estimate the components of population
growth i.e., bixth, death and net migration during
1971-81 at the district level,
