Concert Choir (may be repeated) Grade 9, 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: None<br />

1 year, 1 credit per year<br />

The main goal of the Concert Choir is to provide an opportunity for students to explore and<br />

enjoy the choral ensemble environment through rehearsal and preparation of a wide range<br />

of traditional and contemporary repertoire. Although much of the rehearsed music will be<br />

performed in concerts, emphasis will also be placed on the process of building individual<br />

and ensemble skills while developing overall musicianship. Students will develop vocal<br />

techniques such as breath support and control, tone quality, resonance, diction, blend and<br />

expressiveness, while gaining an increased understanding of sight reading, music notation,<br />

and style.<br />

Show Choir (may be repeated) Grade 9, 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: Audition<br />

1 year, 1 credit per year<br />

The Show Choir, one of the premier performing groups of the school, is a select vocal<br />

ensemble with a varied repertoire, ranging from pop, jazz and show tunes, to sacred and<br />

classical pieces. Many of the musical numbers are choreographed and staged. Participation<br />

in concerts, both on and off campus, is required.<br />

Note: Membership, whether new or continuing, is determined by auditions held the<br />

previous school year.<br />

Rock 101 and Electronic Music Grade 9, 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: Some instrument experience preferred<br />

1 year, 1 credit<br />

This course is designed for those interested in learning about the structure and performance<br />

of rock music through composition and theory. Students study chord progressions, the role<br />

of instruments and investigate the history of rock. The course also has a computer<br />

component with students learning to create loop-based compositions using Ableton Live,<br />

ProTools and Garage Band. Students are expected to complete at least two live<br />

performances and a major computer music composition.<br />

Rock 201 and Electronic Music Grade 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Rock 101 and Electronic Music<br />

1 year, 1 credit<br />

This class is a continuation of the fundamental skills and content of Rock 101, but allows<br />

the student to develop further their performance skills, deepen their understanding of<br />

music theory and history, and expand their electronic recording and editing skills within the<br />

genre of rock music in the twentieth century. Students are expected to complete at least<br />

two live performances and a major computer music composition.<br />
