Geography Grade 9<br />
Pre-requisite: None<br />
1 year course, 1 credit<br />
This required course which runs throughout Grade 9 looks at contemporary issues in<br />
geography. The course covers the topics of water use, development and sustainable<br />
development, population change and migration and the human response to hazards. These<br />
themes are major concerns of our time and the decisions our generation makes will have<br />
consequences for future generations. By studying <strong>Manila</strong>, the Philippines and a selection of<br />
countries from the rest of the world students see how geography is not content merely to<br />
describe but also seeks to explain and offer solutions. Geography will build on the skills<br />
acquired in the Middle <strong>School</strong> and will broaden these to ensure a smooth transition into the<br />
IB programme while providing opportunities for students to become ethical contributors to<br />
the world.<br />
20 th Century World History Grade 10<br />
Pre-requisite: None<br />
2 semesters done over 2 years, 1 credit<br />
To run concurrently with Geography, this required course is a survey of the major social,<br />
political and economic forces of the 20 th Century. Through themes and case studies, the<br />
people, events and ideas that have shaped the landscape of the past century are examined.<br />
Major activities include lecture, discussion, interpretation of historical documents and<br />
other media, research-based projects and written assignments in the form of expository<br />
essays.<br />

2 semesters done over 2 years, 1 credit<br />
