Lifetime Activities Grade 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: Foundations of Physical Education & Fitness<br />

1 year, 1 credit<br />

This course has been designed for individuals who have an interest in sports as a<br />

recreational activity without the emphasis on high level competition. A wide variety of<br />

activities are covered, where there is less emphasis on the result but more focus on<br />

teamwork and cooperation. The aim of this course is to promote an interest in physical<br />

activity and sports, which will lead to participation and involvement in and out of school<br />

and throughout life. Students will be introduced to alternative activities including ultimate<br />

frisbee, climbing, aquatics, archery, fitness, birdieball (golf), tchoukball and hockey.<br />

Students should develop the spirit of success both as individuals and as team players while<br />

applying the principles of fair play, honesty and responsibility. The course will focus on the<br />

importance of healthy living and the benefits of regular physical activity. Students will be<br />

provided with the background knowledge to develop their own fitness programs and will be<br />

expected to maintain a high level of fitness, which will be monitored.<br />

Team Sports Grade 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: Foundations of Physical Education & Fitness<br />

This course is designed for students who are competitive and who thrive in a team sport<br />

environment. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of team<br />

sports including football, touch, volleyball, floor hockey, water polo and basketball. The<br />

goal of this course is to develop a higher level of skill in each activity that will be necessary<br />

for competition and will develop students’ aptitude for IASAS sports. It will not only help<br />

students attain a greater degree of physical fitness but also instill a lifelong interest in<br />

fitness and team sports. Throughout the course, the spirit of success and healthy<br />

competition as team players and individuals will be fostered among students. The principles<br />

of teamwork, cooperation, fair play, honesty and responsibility will be encouraged.<br />

Students will also be expected to maintain a high level of fitness, which will be monitored.<br />
