nation will be emphasized. The main objective of this course is to give students a deeper
understanding of the present socio-economic and political problems of the country from a
historical perspective.
For those who plan to study in the Philippines, this will be a good foundation for the
Philippine History course that is compulsory in all local universities. Even if one studies
abroad for university, this course will provide students with analytical skills needed to
understand the historical context and political background of other countries. As for non-
Filipino students, they will leave the Philippines with a greater knowledge and
understanding of their host country and of themselves.
