The geography course embodies global and international awareness in several distinct ways.<br />
It examines key global issues, such as poverty, sustainability and climate change. It<br />
considers examples and detailed case studies at a variety of scales, from local to regional,<br />
national and international. Geography seeks to develop international understanding and<br />
foster a concern for global issues as well as to raise students’ awareness of their own<br />
responsibility at a local level and an appreciation of their shared responsibility as citizens of<br />
an increasingly interconnected world.<br />
In year 1 of the course students will focus on the core of the curriculum that includes<br />
patterns and change in the environment, development, populations and in resource<br />
consumption. In year 2 students will complete 2 optional units from a choice of Oceans and<br />
their Coastal Margins, Hazards and Risk Management and The Geography of Food and<br />
Health.<br />
There is an internal assessment/guided coursework component that may be completed in<br />
either the first or second year of the course at the teacher’s prerogative. All students will<br />
be expected to take the IB examination.<br />
IB Geography H1 and H2 Grade 11, 12<br />
Pre-requisite for H1: Teacher recommendation<br />
2 years, 1 credit per year<br />
Higher Level candidates will complete the same Core Unit as Standard Level candidates but<br />
they will also complete all 3 of the units detailed for Standard Level: Oceans and their<br />
Coastal Margins, Hazards and Risk Management and The Geography of Food and Health. In<br />
addition Higher Level candidates must complete the Higher Level Extension-Global<br />
Interactions unit which explores the processes and outcomes of globalization.<br />
IB Psychology S1 and S2 Grade 11, 12<br />
Pre-requisite for S1: Teacher recommendation<br />
2 years, 1 credit per year<br />
This two-year course examines human behavior and personality. In Year 1, the core of the<br />
curriculum is emphasized with focus on the interaction of biological, cognitive-behavioral<br />
and socio-cultural systems in the determination of human behavior. Research methodology<br />
is also introduced.<br />
In Year 2 of this course, further attention is given to research methodology and the use of<br />
statistics. Furthermore one specialized, optional topic in psychology is investigated. The<br />
options are abnormal, developmental, health, human relationships or sport psychology.<br />
