This course also devotes quality time to topics that are especially interesting to<br />

adolescents. These include human diversity, divorce, dysfunctional families, death and<br />

dying, stress management and self-worth. More than an academic subject, the<br />

understanding of human behavior that psychology provides will help students better cope in<br />

the real world.<br />

Cultural Anthropology and World Religions Grade 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: None<br />

1 year, 1 credit<br />

This one-year course focuses on Cultural Anthropology with World Religions as an area of<br />

concentration. Cultural Anthropology focuses on introducing the central concepts, methods,<br />

and findings in the modern study of Anthropology, including a brief survey of physical<br />

anthropology and a more thorough analysis of Cultural Anthropology as the main emphasis<br />

of the course. The elements of Cultural Anthropology include Archeology, analysis of<br />

culture, the study of cultural variation, the interpretation of specific behaviors and ideas<br />

connected to particular cultural groups, as well as participant observation. Cross-cultural<br />

comparison among various societies will be ongoing. Major units include: the study of<br />

communication among humans, societal organization, family and kinship issues, gender<br />

roles, belief systems and rituals, including the anthropological issues that have arisen in<br />

modern times.<br />

The World Religions component of the course looks more specifically at the development of<br />

religion and its various expressions in modern times. This module will survey the following<br />

aspects of modern religion: sacred narratives, basic doctrines, common rituals, institutional<br />

expressions, ethical systems and the individual experience of religious life. Theories on the<br />

ancient roots of religious feeling will be examined, as well as ancient myths and traditions<br />

that have diminished in modern times, the modern world-scale religions of Hinduism,<br />

Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, plus a brief survey of some modern small-scale<br />

religious orientations (e.g., animism, occultism, neo-paganism, etc). The connections<br />

between religion and politics, art, mass media, ecumenism, secularism and modern ethical<br />

controversies will also be addressed.<br />

Philippine History Grade 10, 11, 12<br />

Pre-requisite: None (recommended for Filipino Citizens)<br />

1 year, 1 credit<br />

This course is recommended for Filipino citizens and for foreign students who have lived in<br />

the Philippines for several years. It provides Filipino students with the opportunity to<br />

discover their own family history and roots while learning about Philippine history in the<br />

process. The course is a comprehensive study of the political, economic and social<br />
