Business Administration and Economics<br />

Prerequisite: sophomore standing.<br />

202. Principles <strong>of</strong> Macroeconomics. 3 cr. hrs.<br />

National income accounts, commercial banking and<br />

the Federal Reserve System, and government policies<br />

for achieving stable prices and full employment.<br />

Prerequisite: ECO 201.<br />

306. Microeconomics (The Price System). 3 cr.<br />

hrs. The study <strong>of</strong> prices, production, consumption,<br />

resource allocation and market structures begun in<br />

ECO 201, which is prerequisite. Students may not<br />

receive credit for both ECO 306 and ECO 308.<br />

Offered on demand.<br />

307. Macroeconomics (National Income Activity<br />

and Employment). 3 cr. hrs. A study <strong>of</strong> macroeconomic<br />

theory from 1890 to the present. The<br />

course shows how theory was changed in respect<br />

to changes in the economy. Prerequisite: ECO 202.<br />

Spring semester.<br />

308. Managerial Economics. 3 cr. hrs. Applied<br />

economic analysis <strong>of</strong> the firm, competitive structure<br />

within which it operates, and aggregate economic<br />

conditions which affect its decisions. Prerequisite:<br />

ECO 201, MAT 155 or GEN 104, BUS 318. It is<br />

strongly recommended that students take BUS 318<br />

before ECO 308. Students may not receive credit for<br />

both ECO 306 and ECO 308.<br />

320. Industrial Organization. 3 cr. hrs. An<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> the organization and behavior <strong>of</strong> firms<br />

and industries based upon economic theory and<br />

government competition policy. Specific topics<br />

include small versus large firms, mergers and<br />

acquisitions, entrepreneurship, competitive strategies<br />

and business ethics. Prerequisite: ECO 201 or<br />

consent <strong>of</strong> instructor. Offered on demand.<br />

324. Labor Economics. 3 cr. hrs. The theory <strong>of</strong><br />

wages, segmented labor markets, human capital, and<br />

the causes <strong>of</strong> unemployment. Prerequisite: ECO 201.<br />

Offered every third semester by the Evening Division.<br />

326. Introduction to Econometrics. 3 cr. hrs.<br />

This course is an introduction to economic modelbuilding<br />

and forecasting. It presents a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

models including regression, simulation, and timeseries<br />

models. Practical problems involved in forecasting<br />

will be discussed. Prerequisite: BUS 318.<br />

402. Money and Banking. 3 cr. hrs. History and<br />

structure <strong>of</strong> the banking system, objectives and<br />

instruments <strong>of</strong> monetary policy, current monetary<br />

issues and problems. Prerequisite: ECO 202 or consent<br />

<strong>of</strong> instructor. Spring semester.<br />

404. Introduction to International Economics. 3<br />

cr. hrs. Trade incentives and patterns, comparative<br />

advantage, trade barriers and agreements, international<br />

finance and financial institutions. Prerequisite:<br />

ECO 201 and ECO 202 or consent <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

Fall semester.<br />

418. Public Finance. 3 cr. hrs. The American tax<br />

and expenditure system as it affects employment efficiency,<br />

income distribution, and other objectives.<br />

Prerequisite: ECO 201 or consent <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

451. Seminar in Economics. 3 cr. hrs. Writing,<br />

presenting and discussing <strong>of</strong> substantive papers on<br />

selected seminar topics. Prerequisite: senior standing<br />

or consent <strong>of</strong> instructor. Offered on demand.<br />

360. Independent Studies in Economics. 1-3 cr. hrs.<br />

460. Independent Studies in Economics. 1-3 cr.<br />

hrs. Opportunities to pursue study in topics <strong>of</strong> particular<br />

interest are provided in independent studies<br />

with consent <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

481. Economics Internship. 6 cr. hrs. max. Open<br />

to majors who have demonstrated excellence in economics;<br />

enrollment with consent <strong>of</strong> department<br />

through regular registration procedures. Requests<br />

must be submitted to the department before the term<br />

in which the work is to be completed. Available only<br />

with firms having an established intern program.<br />

International Business<br />

and Language<br />

The International Business and Language Major is a<br />

specially designed program planned for students<br />

who are strongly interested in foreign languages and<br />

who plan a career in international business. It is not<br />

the same as two majors, one in Business, the other<br />

in French or Spanish, but it includes features <strong>of</strong><br />

both majors. It includes substantial study <strong>of</strong> the lan-<br />
