The party on this occasion numbered about twenty.<br />
The firing <strong>of</strong> a gun from <strong>the</strong> front do<strong>or</strong>, (something<br />
new) was <strong>the</strong> signal th<strong>at</strong> all was ready—and to<br />
notify absent guests who were expected, to be f<strong>or</strong>thcoming.<br />
The table was spread with a most inviting repast,<br />
<strong>the</strong> delec<strong>at</strong>e -<br />
productions from <strong>the</strong> limits <strong>of</strong> twenty<br />

sprouting from <strong>the</strong> surface,<br />
<strong>or</strong> else very ingenously<br />
placed <strong>the</strong>re.<br />
The top was <strong>or</strong>namented with flowers,<br />
to make it m<strong>or</strong>e insiniv<strong>at</strong>ing, as Capt. observed<br />
who s<strong>at</strong> near me. This was passed round to be<br />
looked <strong>at</strong>, various times, but it still appeared as<br />
<strong>or</strong>iginal and as fresh as <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> beginning ;<br />
<strong>or</strong> magic<br />
changed <strong>the</strong> glass.<br />
