APPENDIX. 165<br />
It <strong>the</strong>ref<strong>or</strong>e sometimes happens, th<strong>at</strong>, in <strong>or</strong>der to secure its<br />
full effects, larger quantities than those indic<strong>at</strong>ed are required.<br />
N<strong>or</strong> is much oppression <strong>of</strong> stomach apt to be<br />
experienced, by those enfeebled by disease, from much<br />
larger p<strong>or</strong>tions. So lightly does this w<strong>at</strong>er lie on <strong>the</strong><br />
stomach, th<strong>at</strong> invalids<br />
have been <strong>of</strong>ten known to treble <strong>the</strong><br />
quantity above prescribed, without experiencing any m<strong>at</strong>erial<br />

The consequence <strong>of</strong> this procedure<br />
