AUTUMN IN<br />
THE MOUNTAINS.<br />
The summer has gone with all its bright days, its<br />
joys and its<br />
pleasures, and <strong>the</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t mellow rays <strong>of</strong><br />
declining September, are falling on <strong>the</strong> woods and<br />
<strong>the</strong> hills. The edges <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> h<strong>or</strong>izon wear a golden<br />
hue, and <strong>the</strong> setting sun is f<strong>or</strong>ming landscapes in <strong>the</strong><br />
clouds.<br />
The mountains are robed in <strong>the</strong>ir highest beauty<br />
—<strong>the</strong> trees have put on <strong>the</strong>ir bright court dresses,<br />
<strong>of</strong>a thousand different hues, and all n<strong>at</strong>ure looks<br />
serenely beautiful.<br />
"How call you this—<strong>the</strong> season's fall<br />
Th<strong>at</strong> seems <strong>the</strong> pageant <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year,<br />
Richer and brighter far than all—<br />
The pomp th<strong>at</strong> spring and summer wear."<br />
But very few persons remain <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>springs</strong> as<br />
l<strong>at</strong>e as <strong>the</strong> last week in September, which, with part<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month <strong>of</strong> October, is <strong>the</strong> most delightful period
