<strong>the</strong> spring is crowded with <strong>the</strong> old, <strong>the</strong> young, <strong>the</strong><br />
gay, and <strong>the</strong> invahd.<br />
At eight o'clock comes breakfast, w^hen <strong>the</strong> tables<br />
are plentifully supplied with <strong>the</strong> best bread ever<br />
baked, and all <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r necessaries to anticip<strong>at</strong>e <strong>the</strong><br />
finest appetites.<br />
After breakfast, <strong>the</strong> company disperse in various<br />
ways—some to <strong>the</strong>ir cabins, to prepare f<strong>or</strong> visit<strong>or</strong>s,<br />
and f<strong>or</strong> visiting—some to <strong>the</strong> drawing-room f<strong>or</strong> music—some<br />
ride on h<strong>or</strong>seback—some walk — parties<br />
are arranged f<strong>or</strong> a dinner <strong>at</strong> Crow's—a pic-nic on<br />
<strong>the</strong>Greenbriar,<strong>or</strong> an excursion to Lewisburg. There<br />
is a very good st<strong>or</strong>e, where every thmg can be<br />
bought—and many go shopping. Gentlemen w^ho<br />
have nothing else to do, amuse <strong>the</strong>mselves <strong>at</strong> w^hist<br />
—some play billiards—o<strong>the</strong>rs exercise <strong>at</strong> nine pins,<br />
<strong>or</strong> wdth <strong>the</strong> gymnasium—and <strong>the</strong> hunters prepare<br />
f<strong>or</strong> a chase, and so passes <strong>the</strong> day until dinner time,<br />
all having made ano<strong>the</strong>r visit to <strong>the</strong> spring <strong>at</strong> twelve<br />
o'clock, wiiich is called <strong>the</strong> lounging hour. F<strong>or</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
half hour preceding dinner, <strong>the</strong> band <strong>of</strong> music is perf<strong>or</strong>ming<br />
in <strong>the</strong> p<strong>or</strong>tico.<br />
Dinner—this is an imp<strong>or</strong>tant period to a gre<strong>at</strong><br />
many, <strong>the</strong> twenty sheep and beef slaughtered . f<strong>or</strong><br />
th<strong>at</strong> day are demolished with gre<strong>at</strong> sang froid, and<br />
a feed servant will place bef<strong>or</strong>e you a fried chicken<br />
