General Rule<br />

Order <strong>of</strong> added entries<br />

Give added entries in the following order:<br />

1) Personal name;<br />

2) Personal name/title;<br />

3) Corporate name;<br />

4) Corporate name/title;<br />

5) Uniform title (all instances <strong>of</strong> works entered under title);<br />

6) Other.<br />

For arrangement within any one <strong>of</strong> these groupings, generally follow the order in which<br />

the justifying data appears in the bibliographic description. If such a criterion is not<br />

applicable, use judgment.<br />

General Material Designations<br />

Although a general material designation (GMD) is given in the title <strong>and</strong><br />

statement <strong>of</strong> responsibility area (LCRI 1.1C), do not use a GMD in added entries,<br />

including added entries for titles (246, 247, <strong>and</strong> 740 fields) <strong>and</strong> related works.<br />

Added entries. General <strong>rule</strong><br />

Sound Recordings<br />

Make added entries for all performers named on a sound recording (persons or<br />

corporate bodies) with the following exceptions:<br />

1) Do not make an added entry for a person who functions entirely or<br />

primarily on the item being cataloged as a member <strong>of</strong> a corporate body represented by a<br />

main or added entry. Do not consider a conduc<strong>to</strong>r or accompanist <strong>to</strong> be a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

body he or she conducts or accompanies. If a person's name appears in conjunction with<br />

the name <strong>of</strong> a group, apply LCRI 24.1A <strong>to</strong> determine whether the corporate name includes<br />

this personal name. If the conclusion is that the corporate name does not include the<br />

person's name, do not consider the person a member <strong>of</strong> the group; if the conclusion is<br />

that it does include the person's name, consider the person <strong>to</strong> be a member <strong>of</strong> the group.<br />

2) If both the chorus <strong>and</strong> the orchestra <strong>of</strong> an opera company, opera house,<br />

etc., participate in a performance <strong>and</strong> both are named, along with the name <strong>of</strong> the parent<br />

body, make only a single added entry under the heading for the parent body.<br />

3) When a featured performer is accompanied by an unnamed group that, if it<br />

had a name, would be given an added entry as a corporate body, do not make added entries<br />

for the individual members <strong>of</strong> the group. Do not, however, apply this exception <strong>to</strong> jazz<br />

ensembles, even if one or more <strong>of</strong> the performers is given greater prominence than the
