<strong>Membrane</strong>s with local envir<strong>on</strong>ments<br />

A daem<strong>on</strong> actually begins to work <strong>on</strong>ly in the case when a shortage of objects<br />

occurs in the inside/outside part of base multisets bel<strong>on</strong>ging to membrane<br />

borders. This shortage of objects enforces a sucti<strong>on</strong> effect which the daem<strong>on</strong>s try<br />

to meet as far as possible. If the shortage of objects occurs in the inside/outside<br />

part of a base multiset in a membrane border, the daem<strong>on</strong> assigned to this base<br />

multiset tries to supplement the missing objects by the objects of the same type<br />

from a neighbor base multiset bel<strong>on</strong>ging to the inside/outside space delimited by<br />

the c<strong>on</strong>sidered membrane. Two multisets are neighbor when their intersecti<strong>on</strong><br />

is n<strong>on</strong>empty. The first daem<strong>on</strong> executi<strong>on</strong> sets off a sequence of nested daem<strong>on</strong><br />

calls. The nesting stops when 1) the actual base multiset does not have any<br />

neighbor base multiset; 2) or the actual base multiset has <strong>on</strong>e or more neighbor<br />

base multisets but they do not c<strong>on</strong>tain any object of the required type. In this<br />

phase, the partial multiset approximati<strong>on</strong> space is changed and a new border<br />

(from inside and outside) can be defined for regi<strong>on</strong>s as multisets. Hence, the<br />

membrane computati<strong>on</strong> can start again. The whole computati<strong>on</strong> process stops<br />

when there is no any applicable daem<strong>on</strong>.<br />

It is assumed that we have a membrane system Π (Definiti<strong>on</strong> 6) with an<br />

initial c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> (Fig. 1). Step 1 generates an initial partial multiset approximati<strong>on</strong><br />

space (Definiti<strong>on</strong> 7). Step 2 c<strong>on</strong>straints the scope of the executi<strong>on</strong>s of<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> (symport/antiport) rules for membrane borders.<br />
