Dr. Kim summarized his research at the project review meet<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

Okemos, Michigan. He reported that many NC DOT districts are already<br />

convert<strong>in</strong>g all chip seals to polymer modified asphalt emulsions based<br />

upon their own experience and Dr. Kim’s f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs to date, even though<br />

research is not complete and no state mandate requir<strong>in</strong>g polymers has<br />

been published.<br />

• Discussions with European emulsion experts and Standards Committee<br />

members, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Didier Lesueur of Eurovia and Francois Chaignon of Colas;<br />

• Discussions with Darren Hazlett (TXDOT) and Dr. Amy Epps (Texas<br />

Transportation Institute, TTI) on their efforts to develop Superpave PG-type<br />

performance-related emulsion specifications;<br />

• Discussions with Jim Moulthrop regard<strong>in</strong>g progress with Fugro’s pooled-fund<br />

microsurfac<strong>in</strong>g mix design study;<br />

• Discussions with McGraw (MnDOT), Maurer (PennDOT), Hosse<strong>in</strong>zadeh<br />

(CALTRANS) and other SHA personnel on the status of delayed acceptance for<br />

certified asphalt emulsion suppliers and modified asphalt emulsion performance<br />

specification development;<br />

• Discussion with Roger Olson (MnDOT) regard<strong>in</strong>g an upcom<strong>in</strong>g pooled-fund<br />

pavement preservation study for MnROAD that may provide a second<br />
