PROCEDURE:<br />

(1) Pilotage is compulsory and is available H24 for the following:<br />

(a) Vessels <strong>of</strong> 50m LOA and over<br />

(b) All vessels carrying dangerous substances<br />

(c) All vessels carrying more than 12 passengers<br />

(2) Notice <strong>of</strong> ETA at Pilot boarding position should be sent to the Hr Mr either directly<br />

or through their local agent at least 24h in advance.<br />

(3) If necessary later corrections to ETA should be sent direct to Barrow Port <strong>Radio</strong>.<br />

(4) Vessels with an ETA between 1600 LT on a Friday and 0745 LT the following<br />

Monday (or 0745 LT on the following Tuesday in the case <strong>of</strong> Bank Holiday weekends)<br />

must give at least 36h notice <strong>of</strong> their arrival in order to ensure the availability <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Pilot.<br />

(5) Vessels should communicate their ETD to the Hr Mr via Barrow Port <strong>Radio</strong> as soon<br />

as possible before sailing to ensure the availability <strong>of</strong> a Pilot.<br />

(6) Pilot boards close SW <strong>of</strong> Lightning Knoll Lt buoy (53°59′·84N 3°14′·28W).<br />

Local Port Service<br />

AREA:<br />

<strong>The</strong> Local Port Service covers the area from Lightning Knoll Pilot boarding position up<br />

into Ramsden Dock and up into the upper reaches <strong>of</strong> the Walney Channel where the<br />

windfarm vessels berths are located.<br />

(5) Barrow Port <strong>Radio</strong> will provide the following details on request:<br />

(a) Any planned traffi c movements<br />

(b) Any known defects to aids to navigation<br />

(c) Berth allocation<br />

(d) Tidal and/or weather information<br />

(e) Other specifi c information (speed reductions required, dredging work, diving<br />

operations in progress etc.)<br />

(a) All vessels <strong>of</strong> 20m LOA and over<br />

(b) All vessels carrying 12 or more passengers<br />

(c) All vessels carrying dangerous cargo<br />

(d) Windfarm crew transfer vessels, and similar small work boats, inward-bound<br />

only.<br />

(2) Reporting: Vessels should report both inward-bound and outward-bound to<br />

Barrow Port <strong>Radio</strong> on VHF Ch 12 when passing position 54°03′·00N 3°10′·00W<br />

(abeam Haws Point).<br />

(3) <strong>The</strong> report should include the following information:<br />

(a) Vessel’s name<br />

(b) Intended passage<br />

(c) Other information requested<br />

(4) Vessels, including windfarm crew transfer vessels and similar small work boats,<br />

should also report prior to leaving any berth or anchorage within the port.<br />
