PROCEDURE:
(1) Participation in the VTS is mandatory for the following:
(a) All vessels in transit towards Mejillones Bay
(b) Vessels entering or leaving the bay
(c) Vessels anchoring within the port limits
(2) Vessels must keep a permanent listening watch on VHF Ch 16
(3) Vessels should confi rm ETA 1h before arrival to Mejillones Radio via VHF Ch 16.
(4) Participation in the VTS is voluntary for vessels transiting the VTS area from the
N, S or W but they must keep their AIS systems in operation.
REPORTING:
(1) On entering the VTS area vessels should establish communication with Mejillones
Radio stating the following information:
(a) Vessel’s name
(b) Call sign
(c) ETA at the Pilot boarding position
(2) Vessels in transit, outside of the port limits, should include in their report:
(a) Vessel’s name
(b) Departure time from last port
(c) Destination port and ETA
