APPENDIX C - NOTES ON FORMAT FIELDS AND PROCEDURES:<br />

(1) To enable effi cient processing by RCC Australia computer systems, Masters are<br />

encouraged to send reports in IMO format. Message format fi elds should be clearly<br />

identifi ed by the relevant alphabetical letter.<br />

(2) Date/Time Group: Dates and times contained in AUSREP reports are to be in<br />

Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) and must include the suffi x ‘UTC’. Example: 5<br />

November 2100UTC transmitted as 052100UTC.<br />

(3) Latitude/Longitude:<br />

(a) Latitude: Four fi gure group indicated by suffi x ‘S’ (south) with seconds<br />

rounded to nearest minute<br />

(b) Longitude: Five fi gure group indicated by suffi x ‘E’ (east) with seconds<br />

rounded up or down to nearest minute<br />

(c) Example: Latitude 13°15′46″S transmitted as 13 16S Longitude 152°06′24″E<br />

transmitted as 152 06E<br />

(4) Intended Route: Indicate Great Circle or Rhumb Line with way points being<br />

followed, expressed in latitude or longitude. Courses are not required if way points are<br />

mentioned.<br />

(5) Speed: Anticipated average speed ship will make till next report. Must be specifi ed<br />

in knots and decimals <strong>of</strong> knots to the nearest tenth <strong>of</strong> a knot. e.g. 13.74 would be sent<br />

as 13.7; and 13.77 would be sent as 13.8.<br />

(6) Course: True course anticipated until next reporting time. Must be written as three<br />

digits; e.g. 073. When more than one course will be steered enter ‘various’.<br />

(7) Rules for DRs: AUSREP - Should a ship, at any time, be in a position more than<br />

2h steaming from the position that would be predicted a DR MUST BE SENT.<br />

(8) <strong>Radio</strong> Stations Monitored: Identifi cation details should be provided on those<br />

CRS which the ship normally works for commercial radio communications. If the ship<br />

is fi tted with satellite communications, the station identity number(s) should also be<br />

included.<br />
