5.8.3 UNSW Information Day
Local undergraduate students must apply for admission to UNSW programs through UAC,
and the 5th January 2005 was the last day students could change their preferences for
university degrees. Therefore the university hosted an information day on the 5th January
to assist students obtain information to fi nalise their preferences. Centre administrative
and academic staff attended this event and talked to many prospective students who were
unsure of their career direction. Students received information on our programs and had the
opportunity to ask questions of staff.
5.8.4 UNSW Courses and Careers Day
UNSW Courses and Careers Day is the annual information day for prospective students
to obtain information about programs and student life at the university. As part of this
day academic and administrative staff from the Centre attended information desks in the
Roundhouse to provide advice, and information to prospective students. During the day Dr
Alistair Sproul also presented two lectures about the Centre’s programs as part of the
lecture series organised centrally by the university.
In order to increase the awareness of photovoltaic
technology the Centre organised another couple
of activities on the day. BP Solar was kind enough to
lend the Centre a Solar Powered Ice-Cream Cart for
the day which was used to distribute free ice-blocks to
members of the public. Alongside the ice-cream cart
the Centre displayed a solar cooker and a solar-powered
water pump. Students staffed this display and talked
about our educational programs. In addition to this the
Centre, in collaboration with the Energy Management
Unit at UNSW, also conducted tours of the inverter
room for the recently installed photovoltaic array on
the Quadrangle Building.
