5.9.6 Murdoch <strong>University</strong> Western Australia<br />
Scientia Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Wenham was awarded an adjunct appointment at Murdoch <strong>University</strong> to<br />
help the university implement a new undergraduate degree in Renewable Energy Engineering<br />
which commenced in 2001. Pr<strong>of</strong> Wenham still holds this appointment and is also a member <strong>of</strong><br />
the Murdoch <strong>University</strong> Renewable Energy Engineering Board. This collaboration is important<br />
for the exchange <strong>of</strong> educational material for both institutions.<br />
5.9.7 Queensland Sustainable Energy Industry Development Group (QSEIDG)<br />
The Queensland Sustainable Energy Industry Development Group was formed in 2004 to<br />
enhance collaboration between government, education, industry, and community organisations<br />
involved in sustainable energy and energy effi cient projects in Queensland. This organisation<br />
has developed mobile training facilities to raise awareness <strong>of</strong> sustainable energy. Each trailer<br />
has working examples <strong>of</strong> photovoltaic systems, wind energy systems, solar hot water heating<br />
and water pumping. The organisation has allowed the Centre to use their design for this<br />
trailer to build our own mobile display unit suitable for the annual Courses and Careers Day.<br />
5.9.8 Randwick City Council<br />
The Centre is in collaboration with the Randwick City Council on a fourth year thesis which<br />
is investigating the potential application <strong>of</strong> high-pr<strong>of</strong>i le, public renewable energy projects in<br />
the Randwick City Council area. Feasibility studies are to be conducted as part <strong>of</strong> this project<br />
which commenced in July 2005 and will be completed mid-2006.<br />
5.9.9 Suntech Power Corporation<br />
Suntech, a partly Australian-owned company operating in China, has been actively involved<br />
in assisting UNSW with the development, testing and evaluation <strong>of</strong> educational material in<br />
the PV area such as in the development, testing and evaluation <strong>of</strong> a s<strong>of</strong>tware package called<br />
the Virtual Production Line. Signifi cant numbers <strong>of</strong> UNSW undergraduate students also<br />
participate in industrial training at Suntech. These students fi nd their time in China an extremely<br />
valuable educational and cultural experience. This collaboration has also resulted in members<br />
<strong>of</strong> Suntech visiting the Centre and obtaining experience in the Centre’s laboratories.<br />
