Hindu, a Muslim, or a Sikh. Self-Realisation is<br />

infinite and without inspiration all efforts of man<br />

unaided end in despair and in weariness of spirit<br />

and fatigue of soul. Without inspiration, all is<br />

vanity. That the <strong>Swami</strong> -was inspired none can<br />

deny. <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong> lived the deep life of a Bhagat,<br />

of a man of Simrin, of a self-intoxicated poet, of a<br />

man maddened with the exquisite beauty of the<br />

Divine Face in the Universe, and this almost<br />

continuous ecstatic state of his mind does not seem<br />

to be the result of any self-discipline] but of a<br />

sudden onrush of Higher Inspiration. <strong>The</strong>re are<br />

evidences of the sudden floods coming into him,<br />

and his self-discipline of years helped him to live<br />

on those floods with the tenacity of a<br />

mathematician, with the devotion of a lover, with<br />

the recklessness of a philosopher and with the will<br />

of a conqueror, even in times of depression. <strong>Swami</strong><br />

<strong>Rama</strong> held fast to the tides. His poetry, his vast<br />

reading, his choice of solitude, and of incessant<br />

work all helped him. But no man with any spiritual<br />

insight could deny that the beautiful glow of his<br />

personality was of a kind that reminds one faintly<br />

of Chaitanya. <strong>The</strong> spirit of Bhakti vibrated<br />

intensely even when he was blazing in his own<br />
