<strong>The</strong> <strong>Story</strong> <strong>Of</strong> <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong><br />

told me, "advising him to eschew his politics, to<br />

meet the Princes of India, get together a lot of<br />

money and establish his own sect and mission and<br />

gather power and all that old wisdom of the poor<br />

blind pharisees. <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong> treated this with<br />

contempt but he suffered staying with the monk<br />

for a little while: not that <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong> did not<br />

know the man, but he had once again in his own<br />

charitable way on his landing in India, accepted a<br />

total surrender of this monk voluntarily made by<br />

him as he went to receive him at Bombay. He, in a<br />

private room, dedicated his life to <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong>.<br />

<strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong> took it in his own spirit. But it was<br />

soon found that this Pharisee had his own irons in<br />

the fire, and wished to utilise the character of<br />

<strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong> to make himself famous in India.<br />

This alliance was finally broken by <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong>,<br />

by quietly slipping away to Pushkar from Muttra<br />

and from there he wrote to <strong>Swami</strong> Shiv Guna<br />

Acharya (see his letter given below 15 ) that he<br />

wished to work on his own lines and not to think<br />

of Princes and wealth and missions at all.<br />

At Muttra, he loved to sit on the silver sands of the<br />

Jamuna and loved to bask in the sun doing<br />
