ONCE he had with him but three pice a day to<br />

himself for a whole month. "Never mind," he said<br />

"God wishes to put me to the test. It will suffice for<br />

me." And in these days he used to go to a Punjabi<br />

baker's shop and take his morning meal costing<br />

two pice, and his evening meal costing one pice.<br />

But after a few days, the baker said: "Get away,<br />

you come daily and take bread worth three pice<br />

from me and pay nothing for the pulses I give you.<br />

You take my pulses free. Go, 1 would not sell you<br />

any bread." <strong>The</strong> boy then lived only on one meal a<br />

day.<br />

In such poverty, he managed to educate himself,<br />

winning University scholarships, taking private<br />

tuitions and supported his wife and children,<br />

served Dhanna of Gujranwala and helped his<br />

parents too. While yet a student, his father billeted<br />

his family people on him, as the boy defying the<br />

wishes of his father had determined to go through<br />

the college education, while the father had wished<br />
