THE FRUITS IN HIS BASKET:<br />

His Fundamental Thoughts<br />

EVERY man who seeks after the Truth of Life, its<br />

labour and love, gathers a few ripe fruits of life in<br />

his basket; and if he is generous, he sits on the<br />

roadside and goes on distributing them to all who<br />

come to him, and often he goes to others who need<br />

them; but forever full is his basket of fruits, as<br />

forever he keeps on distributing them. Whether the<br />

story of a saint distributing a loaf of bread to<br />

hundreds of guests and yet having enough for<br />

more, be true or not, this basket of fruits that the<br />

loving and earnest enquirer after Life's meaning<br />

and true purpose carries about, can never be<br />

emptied.<br />

We have seen <strong>Swami</strong> <strong>Rama</strong>, the Monk, in his<br />

orange robe; now he should be pictured in this<br />

chapter as the gay fruit seller with his<br />

inexhaustible basket of fruits on his head, or as one<br />

sitting on the roadside, and his hands in the basket<br />

of fruits before him, just giving the fruits away.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is a state of life, he teaches, above body and<br />
