when he said: "I am God" tears of bliss trickled<br />

down his closed eyes, his face sparkled, and his<br />

arms vibrated with passion to hold the very<br />

universe in his embrace. This emotion assuredly is<br />

not of any philosopher. This passion was of a<br />

Vaishnava Bhakta. In early days, he seldom spoke<br />

in public without shedding tears at the very name<br />

of Krishna for hours. He beheld Him on the<br />

Kadamb tree and heard his flute ringing in his ears,<br />

while bathing in the Ganges at Hardwar. In his<br />

house at Lahore, he read Sur Sagar with the<br />

glorious passion that brought him the vision of<br />

Krishna after which he swooned away. Seeing a<br />

serpent with upspread hood in his room that very<br />

day after the swoon, he beheld Krishna dancing on<br />

its hood. He told me that for days and nights he<br />

wept in love of Krishna, and his wife saw in the<br />

morning that his pillow was wet with tears,<br />

I woke to find my pillow wet<br />

With tears for deeds deep hid in sleep.<br />

I knew no sorrow here, but yet<br />

<strong>The</strong> tears fell softly through the deep.<br />
