The acoustic guitar has been involved in some of the most<br />

magnificent recordings ever made. Its gorgeous vibrations have<br />

been heard in a wide variety of genres, from classical, folk,<br />

and country, to rock, pop, and R&B. It’s even been sampled<br />

in hip-hop and electronic music. But the quality of sound<br />

depends on one thing: the wood. Turns out, the trees that produce<br />

it are in serious danger, due to a logging practice known<br />

as clearcutting. In this riveting and beautifully shot documentary,<br />

owners of the top guitar companies unite with Greenpeace<br />

to find an agreeable solution. They travel to Southeast Alaska<br />

to experience the controversial practices firsthand. There they<br />

hope to convince the Native American landowners to find a<br />

more sustainable approach. Their attempts meet resistance<br />

from a distrustful people still reeling from the effects of<br />

America’s sordid past with Native Americans. With appearances<br />

from Steve Earle, Yo La Tengo, Kaki King, and The<br />

Antlers, MUSICWOOD celebrates the legacy of the acoustic<br />

About the Director~Maxine Trump is a writer, producer, and director originally<br />

from the United Kingdom. She currently resides in New York where she works at<br />

Helpman Productions. She began her career in television in 1993, working for the<br />

BBC. Her work has been featured on such channels as PBS, Comedy Central, and<br />

In Kosovo the war between the Serbs and the Albanians shatters<br />

the lives of Danica and her two sons. Her husband is dead,<br />

bombings are daily occurrences, and material in an abandoned<br />

tank is making local children sick. Danica returns home one<br />

day to find that Ramiz, an injured Albanian soldier, has taken<br />

refuge in her house. Despite the hatreds around her, she nurses<br />

him to health. Danica knows the risks she is taking, but she<br />

and Ramiz are falling in love and his presence creates a new,<br />

if dangerous, family for her. When a neighbor denounces Danica<br />

to the militia, Ramiz is forced to flee back to Albania. But<br />

Danica’s youngest son has gone there as well, innocently<br />

following an ill Albanian classmate over the only bridge, now<br />

closed and heavily guarded. Will Danica be able to contact<br />

Ramiz? And will he be able to save her child and return with<br />

him? MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY follows them as they defy<br />

governments and armies to forge a family out of the ashes of<br />

About the Director~Michaela Kezele was born in 1975 in Munich, Germany. She<br />

is a film actress, writer, and director. She received nominations for directing and<br />

screenwriting at numerous film festivals, including Montréal and Munich, and won<br />

Best <strong>Film</strong> at the Bavarian <strong>Film</strong> Awards for MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.<br />
