2013 AWARD ARTISTS
Each year we invite a prominent local artist to design our awards for the Festival. This year we are
honored and excited to work with John and Beth Ryan.
John and Beth Ryan exhibit regionally and have collections in a national market. Notably, John has
a collection of his artwork in the corporate Aflac national offices and Beth has a permanent display
at Cleveland State University. They both have many local, dedicated clients. And both are strongly
involved in promoting the arts within their community. John acted as juror in the 2009 Scholastic Art
exhibition. Beth teaches art at Holy Name High School and has dedicated her career to educating
youth on the importance of the arts in their lives. John and Beth began collaborating on artworks in
2005. Their collective works are intended to be both serene and disquieting; a mutual collapse and
integration of object, pattern, and form. Their most recent and important collaboration was their son
Jack Parker Ryan, born in the summer of 2012.
John has a B.F.A. in Painting from Ohio University (02). Beth has a B.A. from Ursuline College (03)
and an M.A. in Art Education from Case Western Reserve University (09).
Johns and Beth’s work can be seen at www.johnryanart.com and www.bethryanart.com, respectively.
Previous award artists include:
Anna Arnold, Kate Budd, Scott Goss, Hildur Jonsson, Shannon Okey, Alexander Pakis, Ben Parsons,
Angelica Pozo, Eric Rippert, Mark Smith, and Mark Yasenchack.
