Nimr, a Palestinian, travels to Tel Aviv from Ramallah on a special student pass. Roy is an Israeli lawyer with a well-connected family and a bright future. They know that, to stay together, they must plan carefully and discreetly. Nimr’s brother, however, is providing weapons to militants. One day Israeli Security hands Nimr a dreadful ultimatum: turn informant against his family or never return to Israel and Roy again. Somebody has also denounced Nimr to his family as both traitor and gay. Now Nimr is truly a man alone. His brother will kill him for honor if he goes home and he cannot return legally to Tel Aviv and Roy. Risking everything for his lover, Roy shelters him and desperately tries to find a way to save Nimr and remain together. Narrated by Jeff Bridges, PABLO is a look at Pablo Ferro, the Title Designer for over 90 films including “Dr. Strangelove,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “Beetlejuice,” “L.A. Confidential,” and all three “Men in Black” films. After emigrating to NYC from Cuba as a teen, Pablo did all he could to stay in the drawing game, including breaking in with Stan Lee at Marvel comics. Directors Stanley Kubrick and Jonathan Demme hail him as a genius whose rise was a combination of hard work and unmatched creativity. Beginning his professional career in the advertising business, Pablo reinvented the modern commercial from stoic sales pitches to works of art including fast cuts, motion design, and speed-of-light graphics. It’s amazing to see that everything the current generations take for granted in the world of graphic design really began with one man in a red scarf. Within the frame of one unfinished painting, there exist three castes of figures: the rich, fully-painted Alldunns; the poor Halfies, left unfinished by The Painter; and the stuttering Sketchies, mere suggestions of what might have been. The Alldunns shun the Halfies and persecute the Sketchies, forbidding them to take part in fancy celebrations in their castle. But when an Alldunn named Ramo refuses to give up his love for a Halfie named Claire, he is banished to a perilous forest at the edge of the known world. Ramo and their brave friend Lola escape their canvas and embark on a quest to find The Painter, who they hope will finish their picture and thus help them combat injustice. As they make their way through other paintings in the artist’s studio, the movie opens a window onto a charming world of early 20th century art. Note: This film contains brief animated nudity. Her husband, a Muslim, is returning home to resume as normal a life as possible. But for Anna that requires a complete surrender to Jesus and a Spartan life of prayer and sacrifice. Her husband will have none of it. An intense spiritual battle begins between them, one that soon launches a terrifying escalation into emotional and physical warfare. It rapidly becomes a question of survival as much as salvation. Walking the line between faith and obsession, this unsettling and powerful film raises primal questions with its sharply observant and often shocking imagery.
