She is the only family he has left. But when he arrives unannounced to spend his summer break with her, she is unenthusiastic about the visit. She also reveals that she is engaged. Tadzik soon learns her fiancé is a man of dubious character, connected to racists who attack and harass local minorities. He immediately imposes himself as head of his sister’s household, determined to protect Anka and provide for her himself. Even the affection of a beautiful young Gypsy girl cannot lure his attention away from his sister. Anka senses things going very wrong and she realizes the true nature of her fiancé’s dealings. She also begins to see the darker implications of her brother’s obsession to be with her. All of these elements are becoming increasingly explosive and Tadzik is the spark that could set them off. However, Yugoslavia is starting to crumble, and Belmondo’s charmed life takes an ugly turn. His customers no longer need cigarettes, women, or construction materials smuggled from Italy; the hot property now is arms. Johnny Dark has been his friend for nearly five decades, exchanging letters and dialogue about philosophy, music, theory, art, and other various topics in which these two men, seemingly different, can find common ground. SHEPARD & DARK is an endearing portrait of their decades-long relationship, which has spanned loves, losses, successes, and failures but always returns for more. This documentary follows Shepard and Dark as they look to publish their letters, pictures, and other mementos gathered since the 60s. And as the two men travel back in time, the audience is taken on the ride right along with them. With captivating moments of honesty, Sam Shepard is like a lost rebel searching for direction while his counterpart Johnny Dark is the homebody who has no intention of leaving home or being around people. After spending his youth watching his dedicated father attempt to break the land speed record, Mike has now taken over the dream and SICK MICK AND THE BOYS follows Charlton and his band of Charlton Brothers as they scrape their way to history by trying to build a jet-powered motorcycle in their garage. Great storytelling coupled with the magnetic personality of Charlton, the film takes the audience on a journey of redemption, recovery, and countless cigarettes. Once a man with a troubled past, Charlton is now a man who has rebranded himself as a Buddhism-reading, AA-attending, self-improving man of discipline with a goal of fulfilling his father’s legacy.
