Big dreams sometimes struggle to survive in small towns.
Ernesto still longs for romance even as he breaks up with a
young, irresponsible lover. He hides in his menial job and still
mourns a former lover, now comatose in a nursing home. Gabe,
a successful contractor, is recovering from a break-up with
another married man, but still lives with his wife in an open
arrangement so they can raise their young daughter. The
daily routines of their lives help to numb the dreams of fresh
romance. But dreams do not easily die for these men and hope
is what quietly keeps them going. Even in this small place,
where the word “gay” isn’t openly spoken, they continue to
yearn for romance. And when they least expect it, life may
yet hold something wonderful for these deeply passionate
men sleepwalking through life. Beautifully and poetically told,
Plimpton! Starring
George Plimpton as Himself
George Plimpton was an outcast among the elites of his childhood
and was even kicked out of his boarding school mere
months before graduation. But his life took a fortuitous turn
when his dream of writing came true with an invite to start a
magazine in France. Spending his career at The Paris Review
and re-inventing the celebrity interview, Plimpton became the
go-to guy for the insights of the world’s great artists and the
man behind launching the careers of the world’s great authors.
PLIMPTON! is a celebration of the life of a man who was
friends with Presidents, party host for celebrities, and America’s
amateur of everything. Daring to actually experience the lives
of his subjects, Plimpton would write about his experiences
as a goalie for the Boston Bruins, a member of a symphony
orchestra, a trapeze artist and, most famously, a quarterback
for the Detroit Lions, which was the subject of his best-selling
book, Paper Lion. A captivating and intimate look inside the
life of a man who defined his own place in American culture,
PLIMPTON! is funny, surprising, and insightful; much like Mr.
Plimpton himself. —T.W.
