Ma<strong>the</strong>matics Program<br />

Purpose Statement<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matics program is to develop a broad understanding <strong>of</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matics and an appreciation <strong>of</strong><br />

its beauty and usefulness in God’s world.<br />

Program Goals<br />

1. To assist students’ learning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> breadth and depth <strong>of</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matics.<br />

2. To cultivate students’ understanding and appreciation for <strong>the</strong> relationship <strong>of</strong> ma<strong>the</strong>matics to o<strong>the</strong>r fields.<br />

3. To assist students to communicate ma<strong>the</strong>matics effectively.<br />

4. To provide content knowledge in ma<strong>the</strong>matics for those students seeking secondary certification.<br />

5. To prepare middle school education students to teach ma<strong>the</strong>matics.<br />

6. To prepare students to pursue graduate work in ma<strong>the</strong>matics or related fields or to enter <strong>the</strong> job market.<br />
