Additional Graduation Requirements<br />
Convocation. Convocation reinforces <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s mission to prepare students for lives <strong>of</strong> responsible service and<br />
leadership, within <strong>the</strong> context <strong>of</strong> a caring Christian community. It promotes a wide range <strong>of</strong> common and shared experiences<br />
among UC students in <strong>the</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> Faith Development, Academic/Cultural Presentations, and General Interest. Events<br />
sponsored throughout <strong>the</strong> academic year bring to campus notable speakers, scholars, performers, and programs.<br />
CONV 101. Convocation<br />
All full-time students in <strong>the</strong> undergraduate program, with less than senior standing (96 semester hours), must enroll in<br />
CONV 101 for every semester <strong>of</strong> enrollment. Students who are 25 years <strong>of</strong> age or older at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir enrollment are<br />
exempt from this requirement. There are no o<strong>the</strong>r exemptions. Credit for convocation is Pass (A) / Fail (F) with <strong>the</strong> grade<br />
factored into <strong>the</strong> student’s cumulative grade point average. To receive a passing grade, students must attend 8 convocation<br />
programs per semester, including 2 MAJOR Convocation programs, 2 Faith Development programs, 2 Academic/Cultural<br />
presentations, and 2 General Interest programs or events. Credit, 0.50 credits. Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />
Leadership & Community Service. As a requirement for graduation, all students must participate in <strong>the</strong> Leadership/<br />
Community Service Program. This program includes enrollment in <strong>the</strong> INSIGHTS orientation program for first-time students<br />
with fewer than 30 hours <strong>of</strong> transfer credit, as well as enrollment in a Leadership seminar, recommended to be taken during<br />
<strong>the</strong> sophomore year. Credit, 0.50 hours. Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />
INST 101. Insights<br />
This pass/fail course is designed to equip <strong>the</strong> freshman student for success at <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Cumberlands</strong>. INSIGHTS<br />
will serve to introduce <strong>the</strong> student to new friends, <strong>the</strong> campus, <strong>the</strong> city and region. The skills and attitudes necessary for<br />
success in college, specifically at <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Cumberlands</strong>, will be discussed. Credit, 0.50 hours. Offered fall and<br />
spring semesters.<br />
LEAD 100. Leadership Seminar<br />
The purpose <strong>of</strong> this seminar is to help student leaders better understand how leadership is effectively exercised to enhance<br />
personal leadership. The seminar will help students: streng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong>ir leadership skills, enhance <strong>the</strong>ir ability to analyze and<br />
critique <strong>the</strong> leadership <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs, analyze and assess characteristics <strong>of</strong> good leadership, and understand <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> spiritual growth <strong>of</strong> a leader. Credit, 0.50 hours. Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />
Additional Courses<br />
INTR 401, 402. Corporate Internship<br />
A full-time residency in <strong>the</strong> corporate setting, this internship is open to students who wish to earn academic credit for<br />
practical work experience and training in areas approved by <strong>the</strong> Vice President for Academic Affairs. Prior to <strong>the</strong> semester<br />
<strong>of</strong> residence, all students selected for this internship will be required to participate in a workshop designed to maximize <strong>the</strong><br />
potential for growth and productivity in <strong>the</strong> mentor-mentee relationship. Three, six, nine, or twelve semester hours may be<br />
earned, depending upon <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> approved internship, and <strong>the</strong> recommendation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> student’s advisor.<br />
May be repeated twice not to exceed a total <strong>of</strong> fifteen semester hours. Credit, 12 hours. Offered as needed.<br />
STSK 120. Principles <strong>of</strong> Academic and Personal Development<br />
This course helps students to create habits and vision that pave <strong>the</strong> way for a rich, full, and rewarding personal, scholastic,<br />
and pr<strong>of</strong>essional life through <strong>the</strong> adoption <strong>of</strong> positive strategies and techniques. Credit, 2 hours. Offered fall and spring<br />
semesters.<br />
