MUED 324. Teaching Music in <strong>the</strong> Elementary School<br />
A course for music majors and elementary education majors who are music minors to become acquainted with curriculum<br />
methods and materials in all phases <strong>of</strong> general music for grades P-5. Prerequisite: MUSC 231. Credit, 2 hours. Offered<br />
each spring semester.<br />
MUED 331. School Music<br />
A course designed for elementary classroom teachers dealing with <strong>the</strong> fundamentals <strong>of</strong> music and materials for grades<br />
P-5. Credit, 3 hours. Offered each fall and spring semesters.<br />
MUED 334. Methods and Materials-Choral, General Music (Middle School)<br />
This course is intended to expose <strong>the</strong> music education student to <strong>the</strong> philosophy and content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> public school music<br />
program as well as equip him with <strong>the</strong> tools needed to effectively instruct all phases <strong>of</strong> general music in grades 5-9 and to<br />
organize and develop all aspects <strong>of</strong> a choral program in <strong>the</strong> elementary, middle and high school. Prerequisite: MUED 324.<br />
Credit, 3 hours. Offered each fall semester.<br />
MUED 336. Instrumental Methods<br />
This course is designed to equip <strong>the</strong> music education major with <strong>the</strong> role, objectives, and methods <strong>of</strong> instrumental<br />
music in <strong>the</strong> public schools, including elementary, junior high and senior classes. It is also designed to give <strong>the</strong> music major<br />
an understanding <strong>of</strong> show design for <strong>the</strong> high school marching band and <strong>the</strong> techniques necessary to chart and teach a<br />
marching band show. Prerequisite: MUED 324. Credit, 3 hours. Offered each fall semester.<br />
MUED 410. Advanced Conducting-Choral<br />
A course to provide students with <strong>the</strong> advanced skills necessary to properly conduct a choral ensemble. Prerequisite:<br />
MUSC 312. Credit, 1 hour. Offered each spring semester.<br />
MUED 411. Advanced Conducting-Instrumental<br />
A course to provide students with <strong>the</strong> advanced skills necessary to properly conduct an instrumental ensemble.<br />

MUED 421. Vocal Techniques<br />
A course designed to deal with <strong>the</strong> problems <strong>of</strong> teaching voice in <strong>the</strong> context <strong>of</strong> private lessons, class voice and <strong>the</strong><br />
choral rehearsal. Prerequisite: two hours <strong>of</strong> applied voice and MUPR 121. Credit, 2 hours. Offered each spring semester.<br />
MUED 425. Music Core Seminar<br />
This course is designed as a review <strong>of</strong> music <strong>the</strong>ory and music history in order to assist music majors with <strong>the</strong><br />
Departmental Exit Exam and <strong>the</strong> Music Specialty Area <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> PRAXIS. Reviewed topics include: music <strong>the</strong>ory, orchestration,<br />
form and analysis, and music history. Prerequisite: MUSC 232, MUSC 333, MUSC 334, MUSC 423 and MUSC 424. Credit,<br />
2 hours. Offered spring semester.<br />
MUCM 323. Church Music Education<br />
Philosophy and practice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church’s ministry through music to preschool and <strong>the</strong> elementary age children. Credit, 2<br />
hours. Offered fall semesters <strong>of</strong> even-numbered years.<br />
MUCM 324. Church Music Administration<br />
The practical role <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> minister <strong>of</strong> music in <strong>the</strong> church including planning, organizing, promoting, and budgeting <strong>the</strong><br />
total music program <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church. Credit, 2 hours. Offered spring semesters <strong>of</strong> odd-numbered years.<br />
MUCM 425. Hymnology<br />
Study and analysis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> great hymns <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> church, <strong>the</strong>ir sources, development, and usage. Credit, 2 hours. Offered<br />
fall semesters <strong>of</strong> odd numbered years.<br />
MUCM 426. History and Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Church Music<br />
A detailed historical study <strong>of</strong> music within <strong>the</strong> church relating to its growth and development, as well as <strong>the</strong> interaction<br />
with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r arts, <strong>the</strong> social climate, and o<strong>the</strong>r music in general. Study <strong>of</strong> values, liturgies, and philosophies that were<br />
significant in <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> church music. Focus on development <strong>of</strong> personal philosophy for ministry <strong>of</strong> music in <strong>the</strong><br />
contemporary church. Credit, 2 hours. Offered spring semesters <strong>of</strong> even numbered years.<br />
MUAM 001. Applied Music Lab<br />
A laboratory, performance course designed to give students practical experience in public performance. No credit<br />
given-taken as a part <strong>of</strong> applied music. Offered each fall and spring semester.<br />
