ESS 330. Kinesiology<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> basic anatomy and human motion as a basis for a pr<strong>of</strong>essional understanding <strong>of</strong> human movement and <strong>the</strong><br />

ability to analyze that movement in daily life, physical education and sports. Prerequisite: HESS 233 or Department Chair<br />

approval. Credit, 3 hours. Offered fall semesters.<br />

ESS 331. Psychosocial Aspects <strong>of</strong> Sports<br />

This is a survey course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> psychosocial foundation <strong>of</strong> sport. Emphasis will be on <strong>the</strong> study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sociological and<br />

psychological concepts relevant in understanding teaching, coaching, participation and performance <strong>of</strong> sport in this country<br />

and <strong>the</strong> world. The course will review methods and factors, which influence motor skill acquisition and performance, as well<br />

as, psychological benefits <strong>of</strong> exercise and sport. Prerequisite: ESS 131. Credit, 3 hours. Offered spring semesters.<br />

ESS 332. Techniques <strong>of</strong> Teaching Rhythmic Activities<br />

Skills in various forms <strong>of</strong> rhythmic activities, methods and materials, evaluative procedures, experiences in teaching all<br />

forms <strong>of</strong> rhythmic activities to students at <strong>the</strong> K-12 level. Credit, 3 hours. Offered spring semesters.<br />

ESS 333. Adapted Physical Education<br />

The course will <strong>of</strong>fer content on providing physical activities for persons with varying needs. It will also provide basic<br />

information concerning selected disabilities; federal and state laws for persons with disabilities; appropriate teaching and<br />

coaching strategies; equipment and behavior management strategies; and disability simulations. Prerequisites: ESS 131<br />

or Department Chair approval. Credit, 3 hours. Offered fall semesters.<br />

ESS 334-Methods <strong>of</strong> Group Exercise<br />

Students will develop a fundamental knowledge <strong>of</strong> how to design and lead group exercise classes. This course will<br />

emphasis techniques and processes for building group exercise classes that are appropriate for all fitness levels and<br />

abilities. Credit, 3 hours. Offered fall semester.<br />

ESS 336. Exercise Prescription<br />

Students will develop an understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>oretical and practical aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> components <strong>of</strong> fitness along with<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> overall fitness levels, design and implement fitness programs and monitor <strong>the</strong>se programs. Prerequisite:<br />

HESS 233. Credit, 3 hours. Offered fall semesters.<br />

ESS 337. History and Principles <strong>of</strong> Exercise and Sport Science<br />

An in-depth study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> history, philosophy and objectives <strong>of</strong> exercise and sport science. Emphasis on <strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong><br />

philosophical, sociological and psychological values on exercise and sport science programs.<br />

Prerequisite: ESS 131. Credit, 3 hours. Offered spring semesters.<br />

ESS 338. Materials and Methods <strong>of</strong> Physical Education<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> methods and available materials for assistance in teaching physical education and recreation and <strong>the</strong><br />

correlation <strong>of</strong> physical education and recreation to <strong>the</strong> total school program. Prerequisite: ESS 232. Credit, 3 hours.<br />

Offered fall semesters.<br />

ESS 435. Physiology <strong>of</strong> Exercise<br />

A course concerned with <strong>the</strong> details <strong>of</strong> physiology <strong>of</strong> exercise relating to <strong>the</strong> activities <strong>of</strong> physical fitness and sport.<br />

Although not required, HESS 233 or BIOL 244 is highly recommended as a prerequisite to this course. Credit, 3 hours.<br />

Offered spring semesters.<br />

ESS 436. Outdoor Recreation<br />

A study <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> trends, opportunities, agencies, activities and resources related to <strong>the</strong> recreational use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> outdoors.<br />

Credit, 3 hours. Offered spring semesters.<br />

ESS 437. Tests and Measurements<br />

The study <strong>of</strong> tests and measurements used in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> physical education and exercise and sport science programs.<br />

Construction, application and interpretation <strong>of</strong> tests and measurements pertaining to health, physical education and exercise<br />

and sport science will be addressed. An emphasis will be placed on reliability, objectivity and validity <strong>of</strong> tests. Prerequisite:<br />

ESS 232. Credit, 3 hours. Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

ESS 438. Movement Development<br />

Theory and background <strong>of</strong> principles and practices <strong>of</strong> movement development from reflexive to movement acquisition<br />

by way <strong>of</strong> growth and movement education will be addressed. Emphasis is placed on Pre-K through Elementary levels.<br />

Credit, 3 hours. Offered spring semester.<br />
