Main achievements of the project
2008 saw the development of two platforms linked
to the aims of the project : Evidens and Atol.
The Evidens platform (Evaluation of the
interfaces of design and ergonomy of new
services) was developed in partnership with Dixid
within the framework of the Images and Networks
cluster. The platform is now operational and the
room is equipped with various sensors (cameras,
microphones, « eye tracker », in particular) which
allow to record and demonstrate the different
actions of the users during cooperative and
collective sessions. This room has already been
used to measure the acceptability of new services
on cell phones and will be used to extract different
users processes. This equipment and these
devices should also be used in the initial design of
systems and in identifying the needs and uses of
users and their constraints.
The ATOL platform developed in partnership with
Thales TAS is dedicated to the study of mission
systems. The platform comprises four networked
operator consoles, identical to those embedded in
Surveillance/Maritime Air Patrols and a maritime
surveillance system mission simulator (sensors,
database, scenarios). Within the ITEA Emode
project different multimodal (graphic, vocal,
gestural) IHM prototypes for maritime
surveillance were proposed. An evaluation of the
benefit of multimodality was carried out and
confirmed its importance in critical phases. This
platform will be completed by an interactive
multi-user tactile table next year in order to
evaluate the new cooperation approaches with
regards to the information system which acts as a
central point when users cooperate.
For contractual research, we can note the
following results:
The ANR MANIF Project (Moyens Aériens
Nouveaux pour l’Identification dans les
Foules : new air means for identification within
crowds) is coordinated by Bertin Technologies.
Our contribution consists in a proposed agentbased
architecture and the development of a
simulator, spotlighting modes of agent
coordinating software for crowd surveillance.
The ITEA Emode Project (Enabling adaptive
multimodal interfaces) was successfully
completed and we adapted and applied the
Emode approach to the field of maritime
surveillance and integrated it into ATOL
(Maritime surveillance system).
The SMAART Project is an Exploration and
Innovation Research contract financed by the
Délégation Générale pour l’Armement (DGA –
General Delegation for Arms), Mission pour la
Recherche et l’Innovation Scientifique (MRIS –
Mission for Research and Scientific
Innovation). Within the framework of this
project, we proposed an agent-based
architecture so as to coordinate a fleet of
drones in a shared authority context.
