RESEARCH
Main achievements of the project
The LIXYS welding mask shutter systems were
developed in close collaboration with the optics
department, which made it possible to develop
different prototypes, which are currently being
evaluated by potential clients. Shutter technology
was also used to develop systems for 3D vision
intended for the cinema and interactive games.
The E3S company was created in 2008 in order to
respond to this technological demand. The
"shutter" project activity generated a number of
patent applications. We are currently studying
anti-glare systems for surveillance cameras in
conjunction with the company Tietronix, in
Lannion. Developments made on the anti-glare
system made it possible for us to confirm the
principle in the visible spectrum. Other
developments have occurred to make these
components work, with other photoconducting
materials, in the near infrared region of the
electromagnetic spectrum, in collaboration with
the University of Rennes I.
Additionally, we have begun studies on composite
polymer/crystal liquid composites used for
holographic recording characterized by a
structure formed from fields that are rich or poor
in liquid crystal. This makes it possible to develop
erasable holograms by a command tension.
These studies led to the development of
wavelength tunable passive functions, on the
basis of a convergence between material and
resonant network aspects.
Last but not least, a European network is starting
to take shape on the initiative of the optics
department: the European Liquid Crystal Institute
will provide structure to European research
around this theme.
